Some of you might know that I am in the Banking IT sector and many would know that I am kind of a Windows phone user. Sometimes I wonder what is the deciding factor to have an application developed for a platform (eg. Windows Phone).
This is one key argument at many will use to state that the only 2 platform that people should based on the decision to make an application for a platform. Few years back (2012) I was reading a whitepaper which states that 73% of Singaporean owns a iPhone. Now (2014), current trend is the Samsung phone (notice I did not use Android?)
Another major consideration is cost, developing an application is no easy task (nobody say it was) And it requires huge funding and amount to hire the developers/vendors to develop and to test in order to meet the standard and customer’s satisfaction. How much does it cost? Depends on the what features you will want your application to do.
I would say that should I be the one making this decision on making application I would follow the strategy of MAYBANK KIM ENG SG. They covered : iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, iPad and Windows 8 (Links shared below).
Customer’s choice of whichever mobile phone should not be the main concern. Are you implying that business from people who are not the iPhone or Android users are not important and because we are the minority that we are no longer your customers? And our worth are not enough for your companies to make the application?
I might just sound like an angry Windows phone fan boy yeah? But no, I noticed that there are many banking application on the windows phone platform as well just not in Singapore. I just feel that the main thing here is the customer’s satisfaction, how a customer regardless of the phone they use will still get the same experience as the other phone users.
All these are just my personal take and why would they (the banks even bother?)
